Frost Genealogy in Five Families, by Norman Seaver Frost (Frost Family Association, West Newton, MA., 1926). 8vo, xx + 390 pages, with 42 pages in two indexes. Digital Edition on CD-ROM © May 2002.
This work traces the descendants of five immigrant ancestors -- Edmund Frost, who settled in Cambridge (New Town), Massachusetts, in 1635 (217 pages); Nicholas Frost, who landed in Kittery, Maine, in 1634 (64 pages); George Frost, who settled in Winter Harbor, Maine, before 1635 (49 pages); Nicholas Frost "the Apprentice," who was in York County, Maine, as early as 1662 (7 pages); and Josiah Frost, who moved from New Jersey to Alleghany County, Maryland, sometime before or shortly after the end of the eighteenth century (11 pages). The compiler (Norman Seaver) could not absolutely determine the Josiah's ancestry, but thought he might be the son of Mary Polk and Josiah Frost, a fifth generation descendant of Edmund.
Descendants are tracked through the eighth or ninth generation, mostly in the male line. Known descendants of the Frost daughters are named for one or (rarely) two generations. Notable scions of these remarkable Frost families include a warrior (Brigadier General John Frost) and a poet (Robert Lee Frost) -- both descendants of Nicholas. One of the daughters, Mary Ann (a descendant of George), converted to Mormonism and married Parley P. Pratt (a name familiar to all good Latter Day Saints).
Collateral families include, most notably, ADAMS, ALLEN, BARTLETT, BROWN, CLARK, CUTTER, DAVIS, FERNALD, FOSTER, FULLER, GILLETTE, GOODWIN, HALEY, HILL, JACKSON, JOHNSON, KIMBALL, MARSTON, MARTIN, MERRILL, PARKER, RICE, RICHARDSON, RUSSELL, SANDERS, SMITH, STONE, TAYLOR, WARREN, WHEELER, WILSON, and WING.
