Erastus Bingham, a descendant of Thomas Bingham of Connecticut, was born 1798 in Concord, Vermont. In 1833 he and his wife, Lucinda Gates, joined the Mormon Church and relocated with their children, first to Far West, Missouri (1836); then to Hancock County, Illinois (1839); Nauvoo (1845); and finally Salt Lake, arriving there in September 1847.

This genealogy encompasses all of Erastus's descendants through the fourth generation, including descendants on the distaff side. Other than Bingham, prominent family names include ANDERSON, BITTON, BOYLE, BROWN, CAMPBELL, DANCE, ERICKSON, FARNSWORTH, FARR, FIFE, FOY, FREEMAN, GOODALE, HANSON, HASTINGS, HISLOP, JENSEN, JONES, LISH, McGEE, NYE, PERRY, PINCOCK, RAWSON, SCOVILLE, SMITH, STEPHENSEN, TAYLOR, TOPPING, WALKER, WHEELER, WILSON, and WRIGHT.   For a complete list of names, see the Name List.

This volume contains hundreds of biographies and autobiographies, submitted by family members and printed exactly as received.  As such, it constitutes an important contribution to the history of Mormonism and the Utah pioneers.

The Bingham Family in the United States, Especially of the State of Connecticut, Including Notes on the Binghams of Philadelphia and of Irish Descent; Mediaval Records; Armorial Bearings, Etc, by Theodore A. Bingham (Philadelphia, 1927), three volumes, 8vo., 1,360 pages, plus an index of 66 pages  [in the digital edition] and 58 interleaved images.  Digital Edition on CD-ROM © June 2006.

This is the second (greatly enhanced) edition of a single volume originally published in 1898.  The focus is on the descendants of Thomas Bingham, a teenager, who emigrated from Sheffield, England,  to New London, Connecticut, in 1640.  This Thomas was the immigrant ancestor of Erastus Bingham (the Utah pioneer of 1847), Hiram Bingham (noted for his missionary activities in the Sandwich Islands), and his son, Hiram (the anthropologist who discovered Machu Picchu).  The latter subsequently served the State of Connecticut in the United State Senate.  The publication includes brief notes on Binghams in Missouri from Virginia, Philadelphia Binghams of Revolutionary times, Binghams of Irish descent, and the Binghams of Louisville, none of whom are descendants of Thomas, the immigrant ancestor of 1640.

The index(s) of this volume are available on line.

The Digital Edition: Complete with two text files (3.3 Mb) and fifty-eight image files (8.0 Mb)

Enhancements:  Lineage-tracking and navigational hyperlinks (These hyperlinks are especially useful on account of the compiler's cumbersome numbering system).  Please note: some of the images (portraits) in this CD are of marginal quality.

Price, shipping included: $49.00 (before ordering, please see our note on prices)
